On January 30, 2025, ILSP welcomed 12 students from the University of Crete, following an initiative by Dr. Maria Papadopoulou, Assistant Professor and Project Manager & Head of the Research Team for the TALOS - Artificial Intelligence for Social Sciences and Humanities program. The group was welcomed by Maria Gavriilidou, Deputy Director of the CLARIN:EL Research Infrastructure for Language Resources and Technologies, and Vassilis Katsouros, Director of ILSP.

The students were introduced to some of ILSP’s flagship projects in Digital Humanities, specifically:

  • The CLARIN:EL Infrastructure and its application in the processing of Ancient Greek tragedies in translation (Kanella Pouli),
  • Meltemi, the first open Large Language Model for Greek (Prokopis Prokopidis), and
  • AI applications in education as part of the AI4EDU project (Spyridoula Stamouli).

Following this successful meeting, opportunities were explored for joint educational activities in areas of common interest, as well as for supporting student mobility from the University of Crete for training and research at ILSP.
