The CLARIN:EL Research Infrastructure and the Institute for Language and Speech Processing of the Athena Research Centre are organizing the Summer School "Language Technology and Artificial Intelligence for Digital Humanities", which will take place in Athens from 21 to 25 September 2026.
The Summer School is organized within the framework of the European project ATRIUM, and more specifically the ATRIUM TNA scheme, which offers fully funded placements to researchers from all over Europe to participate in and attend summer schools organized by the project’s partner institutions during 2026.
This five-day training school focuses on Language Technology (LT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Digital Humanities and aims to introduce participants to digital methods for the humanities, and to provide knowledge and practical skills needed for the successful deployment of LT and AI resources and tools in the framework of Digital Humanities and specifically for the curation and processing of digital language data.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore the following thematic areas:
- Introduction to AI and Machine Learning
- Preprocessing pipelines for AI ready data
- LLMs for low-resourced languages /dialects
- Foundations of LLMs
- LT for Ancient Greek Philology
- Metadata for corpus documentation
- Cross-disciplinary use cases of LT/AI
- NLP for literary analysis
- Linguistic annotation
- LLMs for translation
- Evaluation of LLMs in downstream tasks
- Language resources depositing and sharing
- FAIR principles for open access
The Summer School is addressed to researchers, academics, students, and professionals working in the fields of Digital Humanities, Linguistics, Computer Science, and related areas.
